ACTH stim test and hyperadrenergic state

Postby Beaches » Wed Mar 06, 2013 5:00 pm

This is my first post here.

Am seeing an endocrinologist who is working me up for adrenal issues, including Addison's.

Was diagnosed many years ago with Hashimoto's Thyroid disease, and the endocrinologist at Mayo told me it increased my risk of getting Addison's 'later'.

Also have a very high norepinephrine level of over 1400, and high dopamine levels as well.

This endocrinologist ordered a 24 hour urine collection test for both cortisol and another for catecholamines.

She also ordered an ACTH stimulation test, but I'm confused. She ordered it to be done (at M.D. Anderson hospital) with no baseline test. Just the ACTH shot, and then a blood draw after 60 minutes. Am confused by this because everything I've read includes a baseline test. Can anyone offer insight into this?

Can anyone suggest how to prepare for the test? She gave no special instructions.

I have tachycardia, nausea, vomiting, and extreme fatigue.

Thank you for any help you can offer!
