Addison's and the flu

Postby Renee » Sun Mar 30, 2008 8:26 pm

I was diagnosed w/ Addison's a year ago. But this year I have gotten the flu - all the versions and I can not seem to get back to the normal feeling. I taking 20mg hydrocortisone plus 15mg of isocort which is a natural adrenal support, to work with the adrenal glands not replace. I am still not used to it taking my body so long to recover and just want to know if this is normal. And when you are sick with the flu how much do you increase you medicines?
We are getting ready to go on a trip for spring break and I just don't know if I have the energy to travel. Any suggestion would be very helpful. - Renee

Hi Renee,

Do you think you're completely over the flu? Do you take any fludrocortisone?

With Addisons, you really need to be careful if you have a stomach flu. Vomiting can cause big problems for someone with Addisons. In this case you should have some emergency kit with syringe and solu-cortef. Here's some information to look into on this: http://addisons-diabetes.gkznet.com/solucortef_v3%20_sept04.pdf
