Back to square one!

Well, I got really unexpected news today - despite being totally drained every day without fail from around 14h00 onwards, often crashing in the early evening, despite having 6 years of bilateral shoulder pain (myalgia) which instantly resolved on both sides after a test low dose hydrocortisone shot on the one side, despite having had what I believed was an Addisonian event (shooting but transient back pain at a time of acute stress overload) and despite having lowish cortisol levels (197nM), my ACTH stimulation test came back normal. My thyroid tests are also normal. It's not that I want the Addison's pathology added to my 31 years of Type-1 diabetes, but I really thought I could finally explain my quite debilitating symptoms which are becoming progressively getting worse. Now my endocrinologist wants me to see a rheumatologist to rule out polymyalgia rheumatica. I had blood tests done for this a few months back and that came back normal! CRP is also normal, but then, in my line of work, I always translate "C-reactive protein" into "can't really predict". I should be overjoyed, but instead I am just despondent.

Yes, it is very discouraging to not have an answer. Sometimes it is a sort of relief to have a name for what you are experiencing. I hope you soon find that answer...and it may well be found by going to the rheumatologist. Good luck!

Thanks for the encouragement! I guess shows such as "House" create a false impression that specialists are tenacious about pursuing a diagnosis.
